The Baker in Me

The Baker in Me

I love to bake! I thought at first that it might be because I really enjoy eating. I mean I know that most people probably enjoy eating but I mean I REALLY like to eat. I love the experience, trying new things, making new things, seeing how beautiful food can be…*sigh*. I thought all people felt the way I felt about food…thinking about it all the time, constantly wondering what to eat next, planning my vacations around what food we are going to eat. Then I realized this might not be how the rest of the world sees food. I definitely know us foodies (shoutout to you all) are not a small minority but I see now that this is not the norm for everyone. Maybe it is something unique.

I first began baking when my aunt asked me if I would handle baking some goods for her daughter’s birthday party…adding that she would pay me for it. Hey, who am I to turn down a few extra bucks? I gladly agreed and they.were.a.hit! Soon people were hitting me up to bake for all sorts of events and a business that I never saw coming sprang up right in my own little kitchen. Turns out my love for food expanded further than eating…I genuinely loved to bake. Baking had always intrigued and intimidated me. Sure, I could whip up a batch of cookies or a cake no problem but I never viewed myself as a baker. Sometimes you find your passion in the unlikeliest of places. Now, 7 years down the road my business is on pause (having babies will do that) but my apron is far from being hung up. I still can be caught pulling a pan of gooey chocolate chip cookies or a scrumptious bubbly fruit pie out of the oven most days. Good for my soul, not so good for my waistline.
What do you guys like to bake? What do you feel intimidated by in the kitchen (pastry anyone?). Let’s tackle them together.
